TEHRAN – Young people from 73 countries have been invited to a two-day conference on youth and Islamic awakening, which will open in Tehran on Sunday, January 29, conference secretary general Ali Akbar Velayati stated during a press conference on Saturday. 

 

Velayati said that thousands of people are expected to participate in the conference. 

 

The senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader also said that a number of Bahraini youth have been invited to attend the conference. 

 

Commenting on the crisis engulfing Bahrain, which has been experiencing almost a year of pro-democracy demonstrations, Velayati said, “The movement of the Bahraini people is calling for justice. And they are seeking to have a say in their own destiny.” 

 

He added that the principle of “one person, one vote” forms the basis of all democratic systems, either religious or secular.

 

“The Bahraini people will finally succeed in gaining their rights and will continue peaceful resistance until they get their rights,” Velayati added. 

 

In addition, the director of Iran’s Interests Section in Cairo, Mojtaba Amani, told the Mehr News Agency on Saturday that more than 100 Egyptian youth have been invited to the conference.
